Birth Education and Family

General Patton was born in November 11, 1885 and was born in San Gabriel Township, California. His great grandfather was a governor of Virginia and he also had a great uncle Waller T. Patton that served in the battle of Gettysburg.

Another relative was Hugh Weedon Mercer who was also a confederate soldier. His seventh great grandfather was Louis Dubois, a French Huguenout Immigrant. Another ancestor was the first cousin of George Washington. Patton’s paternal grand parents were Colonel George Smith Patton and Susan Thornton Glassell.

His dad served in the 22nd Virginia infantry of the Confederate States of America. His maternal grandparents were Benjamin Davis Wilson and his second wife Margaret Hereford. General Patton was married to Beatrice Banning Ayer who was born in January 12, 1886 – September 30, 1953

Together they had three children, Beatrice Smith, Ruth Ellen, and George Patton IV, who rose to the rank of Major General. Patton attended the Virginia Military Institute. From there, he transferred to the United States Military academy and was appointed cadet adjutant eventually graduating in 1930 and receiving a commission as a cavalry officer.
